Summary
SoloMD is a local-first Markdown editor. Your notes never leave your device unless you send them somewhere yourself. The versions downloaded from our website and other stores send anonymous usage statistics, described below, which you can switch off at any time; the App Store versions send none.
Data We Collect
Anonymous usage statistics. Unless you turn it off — Settings → Advanced → Send anonymous usage data — SoloMD sends a small event to our own server (solomd.app) when it starts and when you use certain features: which export format, view mode or theme you picked, and the Chinese proofreading tool. Each event carries the event name, the app version, the operating system, the interface language and a random identifier generated on your device (it changes if you clear the app's data). It never contains your notes, file names or paths, and the server does not store your IP address or user agent. The app shows a notice about this on first launch.
The App Store versions (iPhone, iPad and the Mac App Store) send no usage data at all — the code that sends it is switched off in those builds, and they have no such setting.
There is no account system and no advertising, and nothing is shared with or sold to third parties.
Data You Create
All text, images, and files you create or open in SoloMD are stored locally on your device — inside the app's sandbox on iOS, or in folders you choose on macOS, Windows, and Linux. SoloMD does not upload this content to us.
Features you set up yourself send what you choose directly to the service you chose: the AI provider you configure with your own key (or a local Ollama), GitHub / Gitea sync to your own repository, and an image host you configure. We never see that traffic.
Permissions We Request
SoloMD only uses system permissions required for its core editing function:
- Local file access — to open, read, and save files you choose.
- Photos library (only if you insert an image via the picker) — to read the single image you select.
We do not request contacts, location, microphone, camera, calendar, Bluetooth, or any other permission.
This Website
solomd.app sets no cookies and runs no third-party analytics. One exception, used only when
you arrive through a promoter's referral link (a link ending in ?ref=<code>,
see /promote): the site records that a visit — and, within 30 days, a
download — came from that code, together with the page path and a random identifier kept in
your browser's local storage. No IP address, user agent or other device information is
stored. Visits without a referral code send nothing.
Third Parties
SoloMD does not embed any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or social media SDKs. The app's full source code is open at github.com/zhitongblog/solomd (MIT).
Children
SoloMD is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to This Policy
Any material changes will be reflected on this page and noted in the app's release notes.
